My Great Grandfather David William Baxter was born on Friday 14th April 1837 in Dundee, Forfarshire. He had an interesting working life, at the time of his marriage at the age of 26 his occupation is shown as a Manufacturer, the business is clearer by the 1871 census when his occupation is shown as Jute Spinner, in te 1881 census he is emplying 116 men, 205 women, 12 boys and 42 girls. In the Valuation Rolls of 1896 he is widowed and living across the River Tay in Wormit and is now a carpet manufacturer.
