James Scott was born on Thursday 17th May 1860 at Top of Park Street, Lochee Road, Dundee. He started working life as a Clerk in a Jute Mill, very like the one owned by his father, on a visit to the United States of America his occupation is given as Tanner. At the time of his marriage he is now a Wool Merchant and Partner within the firm of William C Scott Limited.
Interestingly, the Probate record shows that he was a Farmer and Wool Merchant.
