My Scotts

The farthest back in time that I have been able to go with this family line is John Scott, 1686-1765, who was born, lived and died in Gilchorn, Inverkeiler, Angus

The next generation headed by James Scott also lived out their lives at Gilchorn, eventually the move to Dundee happened with David Scott, he married Isabel Simpson in 1779 in Dundee and then the next three generations based themselves in and around Dundee until my father and most of his siblings moved away to various parts of the world

The only one to stay in Dundee was my Aunt Betty who married Bobby Whyte a Dundee dentist

My father, John Baxter Scott, was an Articled Clerk with Dickson & M’Intyre, Dundee and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1928. His father, James Scott, was a Wool Merchant with William C Scott Ltd in Dundee

David Scott, father to James, is variously described as a Wool Merchant & Tanner & Skinner, in the 1851 census return his occupation is shown as Skinner, Leather draper, Tanner
