My Grants

My maternal grandmother Jane Bertram Bathgate, maiden name Grant, was the first child of six to William Grant and his first wife Agnes Purdie. William Grant was a General Practitioner (GP} in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, he undertook his medical degree at Glasgow University and graduated in 1871

His father William Grant was an “Engine Driver (Railways)” as described in the 1851 census return for Miurmadkin, Bothwell, Lanarkshire. William junior was at the age of 13 employed as a Parcel Porter as shown in the 1861 census return

Going back a further generation Alexander Grant was an Engine Keeper at the Omoa Iron Works, Shotts, Bothwell, and finally to Duncan Grant
